A housekeeper by profession, she gets drawn to a life of crime after her tryst with gambling at a Las Vegas casino. One bad turn leads to several more and before you know it, Praful is in a sordid mess. Simran is a 2017 Indian heist comedy drama film directed by Hansal Mehta in a screenplay written by Apurva Asrani and Kangana Ranaut. The film stars Ranaut in the lead role and Hiten Kumar, Kishori Shahane, Sohum Shah in supporting roles. The film's narrative revolves around Praful Patel, a divorcee, who loses her savings in a gambling bout. She takes a loan in order to repair the damage but when she is unable to repay it, she finds herself drawn into a life of crime. The movie is loosely based on the life of Sandeep Kaur, a non-resident Indian (NRI) in the United States who has been convicted of four bank robberies. The film released worldwide on 15 September 2017.

Upon release, the film received mixed reviews with critics widely acclaiming Ranaut's performance calling her the "strength of the movie" but criticised the film's screenplay and execution. Commercially, the film was a moderate success grossing ₹27.69 crore on a budget of ₹18 crore. Praful Patel (Kangana Ranaut) works in the housekeeping department in one of the known hotels of America. She lives with her parents in Atlanta but she wants to move out and buy her own house. She has applied for a loan and her loan gets pre-approved. Praful shares a bittersweet relationship with her parents. Praful is 30, divorced and living an independent life. However, her father constantly reminds her mistakes and this does not go down well with her. After one such heated argument, Praful decides to go with her cousin on her bachelorette to Las Vegas. In Las Vegas, she plays baccarat for the first time and wins big in her first few rounds. She quickly gets addicted to the game. The next day, she returns to the casino, but ends up losing not only the money she won the previous day, but a large chunk of her savings also. Praful comes to Atlanta only to find out that her bank application to the bank has been rejected as her credit rating is very low. Praful seeks her father's help but he insists that she should meet a young man Sameer (Sohum Shah) who has been selected as her suitor.
